Labouring in the fields

74.8 % of women are agricultural workers, but only 9.8 percent own a piece of land. 99 % of households are male-headed.

Girls miss school to look after younger siblings to enable their mothers to work in the fields.

Women tending bullocks, sheep and goats form subjects for paintings as do women cutting wheat and transplanting rice . Back breaking work often with little shade with only the men using machinery. The diffused dusty light created by the movement of animals in the evening and the smoke from the burning of cow dung often creates wonderful atmospheric ,colourful backgrounds for paintings.
